🆕 News & happenings this week
🎨 The artist-run Sett Studios and gallery space on Leith Walk is seeking a new home. They said in a statement on Instagram: “We’ve been working really hard on securing a new space over the last six months. Unfortunately, we found out this week that the landlord of the space we were about to sign for had pulled out. We are still hoping to find somewhere to move into when our current lease ends.” - The studio moves out at the end of October. If you can help, contact details are here.
🌳 On Sunday this weekend the Botanics hosts a walking Book Festival event: Authors JC Niala and Emily Chappell will walk and talk about allotments and community growing. - More details here.
🪩 Brace yourself for a night of Voguing at Summerhall on Saturday. Queer POC community-focused night Q'iwa hosts what’s billed as: “A huge vogue night at Summerhall, featuring an inspired lineup of performance artists including ballroom legend Jay Jay Revlon.” - Tickets via RA.
🎭 We’re well into the first full week of this year’s August festivals. The Book Festival starts on Saturday. And although its events are in a new location this year, the familiar site of the Gruffalo Trail will bring some familiarity. Also on Saturday: Margaret Atwood, Alan Cumming and the Loud Poets Grand Slam Final. This week’s Culture Minute has you covered for more tips and locals’ knowledge, followed by the Culture Minute Community Noticeboard and this week’s new local creative jobs.
