Looking ahead to 2024

As the year draws to a close, I'm excited to let you know that The Edinburgh Minute is very nearly my full time job.

This time last year, I didn't expect I could make this work as a sustainable business. It was just an idea! But thanks to hundreds of you, it's nearly there. I work part-time in the afternoons on another job, which I'm grateful for. But doing the Minute full time is a dream that I've never been closer to.

I spent the first two months of 2023 experimenting with the format and workflow (ie, testing whether I could in fact wake up at 5am to curate all the news) and publishing to a handful of trusted pals.

Once I was happy with it, the Minute went live and daily in March. Since then, thanks to your word-of-mouth recommendations, more than six thousand people receive the Minute every day for free. I really enjoy doing it and I love hearing about why you enjoy reading it. And local news sources have had more than A QUARTER OF A MILLION visits as a result too. So it's supporting them and saving you time.

But the truth is, the Minute wouldn't happen without the 600 people who currently kindly pay for their subscriptions. I pay a chunk of that income on hosting fees and admin. Unlike other sites, there are no ads here and it’s fiercely and proudly independent from an editorial point of view. No ‘sponsored content’, advertorials or irrelevant stories about other places here. It’s 100% Edinburgh and I don’t plan to change that, as it’s where I call home too.

Now I want to commit to sending the Minute every day again in 2024. So I'm asking for your support up-front, please.
